A very successful Early Years Support Group Fashion Parade was held on Saturday night the 7th November at the Maroochydore Football Club. We raised in excess of $1000 which will go towards a range of resources and facilities for our school.
I would like to extend a sincere thank you to the many people who modelled, helped with the organisation, provided fashions and supplied raffle prizes for our night. Without the contribution, dedication and team work of these people, organising an event like this would just not be possible.
As always the children’s fashion parade was a real hit and a fantastic opportunity for our students to work with us and showcase their talent. Thank you to those students who modelled so confidently and proudly represented our school. Well Done! Thanks also to the parents and carers of these students for supporting our efforts. Without fashions and prizes, we would not have a parade. Thank you to Think Pink – Mooloolaba, El Mari fashion boutique – Mooloolaba, Just Jeans – Mooloolaba, Surf Planet – Buderim, Pumpkin Patch – Kawana and Intimo Lingerie for kindly supporting our parade and supplying us with clothing.
Many raffle prizes were donated by a range of companies and individuals. I would like to acknowledge the contribution of: Robyn Dell who’s painting was first prize in our raffle (Won by Noel Brady), Terry White Chemist Kawana, Buderim Coffee Company, Megan from Body Shop at Home, Fish and Crab Deep Sea Fishing Charters Mooloolaba, Pumpkin Patch, Grants Quality Meats who have relocated from the Plaza to Aerodrome Rd ($100 worth of vouchers), Debs Boutique Baskets, Boutique El’Mari - Mooloolaba, Miessence, Hair by Tash at Palmwoods, Maroochy RSL, Trazana, Melissa Jean Photography, Silver Rox Jewellery – Kawana.
Thanks also need to go to Nigel Riggs and the Maroochydore Football Club at Martins Creek as they continue to be our major sponsor, donating their club house and facilities for our use. Please help us to thank them by considering becoming a member of their club when the football season comes around again.
The biggest thank you of all goes to those people who came along and supported our parade. Without an audience to purchase tickets and come along and see what we do, the show would not go on. As always, with any events organised by the Early Years Support Group our main focus is to bring people together socially continuing to build a sense of community and further develop partnerships within the school and beyond. We have certainly achieved this goal yet again at the same time raising money, and showcasing the talents of our students (and some staff and parents). If you missed the show this year, please put it in your diary for the same time next year, and stay tuned for the next very exciting Early Years Event.
Thank you to every member of the Early Years Support Group who continue to work as a unified, harmonious team to work together to make improvements for the whole of our school. We are always keen to have new people join our group. Please look on classroom doors for information about our final meeting for the year on Nov 23rd.
Many thanks,
Leanne Harvey on behalf of the Early Years Support Group |
Congratulations to P/1DR who were the winners of the Class Activity prize valued at $200.00. They were very closely pursued by PKK, 4RW, 2HB & 4CM. It was a great effort by everyone and thank you to all who gained sponsors to raise $9,000.00 profit.
The children have received their Jelly sticks for raising over $5.00 and I will continue to hand these out to those who are a little late in returning their money as I still have some left. So if you haven’t returned your form please do so now!
The winner of the bike is Jesse from P/1DR who had 8 tickets in the draw.
Magnificent Effort Everyone! |
Congratulations to all of the Kuluin girls who have been playing rugby over the last 5 weeks . This has been a great experience and enjoyed by all. Thanks to Doug Toms from the Sunshine Coast Junior Development Officer who has run this program. Any child who would like to play club rugby in 2010 can obtain an expression of interest form from Mr Doherty.
At Ballinger Hockey Fields on Friday night several Kuluin students have participated in the Social Come Along and Try Hockey. It starts at 6:00pm and equipment is provided. Greg Richards from Queensland Hockey recommends that players wear a mouthguard. Players will be provided with a stick and shin guards and the cost is $5.00 for the night. The games conclude at 7:15pm. So Year 5-7 students who enjoyed the program at school will find it even better on the international hockey fields at Ballinger Park. Phone Greg for details on 0417 719 973
Year 6 surf skills commences this Thursday. The students had a meeting on Monday to answer all the questions. This program runs for 4 weeks and all students need to pay before boarding the bus. If parents wish to pay it off please see Mrs Kylie Randall to arrange payment plan of $8.00 per week.
Congratulations to Nate who was the Sunshine Coast Regional recipient of the Future State Great Award. There were 12 quality nominations from the region and Nate is one of the State’s best in his sporting endeavours. Nate has represented the region in Rugby League, Rugby Union, Touch Football and Athletics. He also Captained the State Touch Football team that won the National Championships in Adelaide recently. The Grade 3 choir is singing at the Sunshine Plaza on Friday 27 of November. All children involved in this choir have been given a permission note and a transport note as well. Thankyou ever so much to the wonderful parents who have volunteered to help transport their children and others down to the plaza on this day.
Music By Moonlight is fast approaching. 1st December, 6:30 pm, Junior Covered Area Instrumental and Choral children performing. Notes have also been given out to all children involved in the Music By Moonlight.
Finally music quote of the week...
Nothing separates the generations more than music. By the time a child is eight or nine, he has developed a passion for his own music that is even stronger than his passions for procrastination and weird clothes. Bill Cosby

Principal's Report 10/11/09 |
Welcome Back: This week we welcome back Mr Logan who will be returning to his Deputy Principal position. On behalf of the school community I would like to thank Mrs Harvey for the outstanding job that she has done as Acting Deputy Principal during the last nine weeks. Mrs Harvey will be returning to her previous position in the school.
Early Years Fashion Parade: I would like to thank all of the staff, students and community members who spent many long hours preparing and organising for the Fashion Parade that was held last Saturday evening. All of the feedback regarding this activity has been positive and all reports are that this event was a lot of fun and was received very well by everyone who attended. A great deal of time and effort goes into the organisation of an event such as this so, I would like to thank everyone who has contributed.
Graffiti: Unfortunately, we have experienced another graffiti incident over the weekend. This time there have been 5 different buildings affected as well as cement paths painted with black spray paint. The school has been sprayed with inappropriate words, threats to teachers and illustrations that are offensive and unacceptable in any school setting. I would like to thank our school cleaners, our Schools Officer and our Business Services Manager who are required to spend a great deal of time dealing with this issue which impacts on their other daily duties. The Queensland Police Service is required to investigate this incident which is also valuable time that is wasted on a mindless act that should not have occurred in the first place. The frustrating things about graffiti and vandalism in our school is that as a school community we feel violated that people would treat our school with such a lack of disregard when we are very proud of our school and it’s environment, the blatant lack of respect for our students and staff and the cost involved to restore the school to its original state. The cost for making repairs and repainting the effected areas comes from the Kuluin school’s grant account. The last incident which occurred in Term 3 cost our school almost $600 which is money that should be spent on our students learning. If anyone has any information regarding this incident could you please refer the matter onto the Maroochydore Police.
Remembrance Day Service: Our student leaders will be conducting a Remembrance Day Service on Wednesday at 10:40 am for our Year 6 & Year 7 students and community members. This commemorative service will be held at the front of the school where the flag poles are situated. I would like to thank Mrs Doyle for organising and coordinating this service for our students.

I have been made aware of another incident of Cyber Bullying which has occurred outside of the school setting which has significantly impacted on one of our students and their family. Could you please refer to the following information that is taken from Act Smart - Be Safe which is an initiative of the Department of Education and Training supporting the Queensland Government Youth Violence Taskforce.
Parents and carers have an important role to play in keeping their children safe. The transition from adolescence to adulthood is one of rapid change, of increasing connection with peers, and of emerging independence from the boundaries of home, school and family.
During these times, young people may be confronted with violent or potentially violent situations. Violence can be physical, sexual or emotional and can occur in many different settings including the community, school, workplace and within family relationships. Sometimes violence is directly linked to bullying.
Tips for parents and carers to help keep young people safe:
- talk to your children regularly and listen to what they are saying - try to keep up with what is going on in their life - get to know their friends - be interested in their life, yet still respect their need for privacy - find out what communication technologies they use and whether they have a page on a website such as MySpace - cyber safety is a growing concern in our society. As parents we are aware that the internet, if used incorrectly, has its share of dangers and risks. Queensland Police Services provides you with practical information about internet safety through "Who's Chatting to Your Kids?" - know what celebrations or gatherings they are attending and discuss with them the possible risks associated with the celebration and how to manage them.

Last week I advised that book lists would be coming home this week. Unfortunately, this announcement was a little premature as we cannot send them home until classes are determined for 2010, therefore book lists will be sent home as soon as the class arrangements are finalised. I wish to apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and thank you for your patience.

This year we are having two competitions:
Kuluin’s Got Talent and Lip-Synch These two events are held in the last two weeks of term. The children have lip-synch semi-finals in front of their year levels; the classroom teachers are the judges. Kuluin’s Got Talent is judged in the music classroom with the finals being held in the last week of term. The children are aware that they may practise in the music classroom before school and during the lunch breaks only when I am present. There is a list outside the music room door where the children can write down their names in the time slots available. Lip-synch and Kuluin’s Got Talent is open to all children from Grade 3 to Grade 7.
The Grade 3 Choir has been extremely busy rehearsing their songs for the Christmas Pageant. I am extremely impressed by their willingness to give up their big lunch play so that they can practise.
Congratulations to the following wonderful musicians - Emma - Distinction for Piano (91%) (St Cecilia School of music examination) Madeline - A for Grade 2 Piano A.M.E.B. Leith Miller A for Grade 4 Violin A.M.E.B. Please let me know if there are any other results so that I can showcase them in our newsletter.
Remember two important music dates coming up; Grade Three Christmas Pageant November the 27th Sunshine Plaza Music By Moonlight December the 1st Junior covered area 6:30pm

Jamie (year 5) & Abbey (year 7) both competed over the weekend at the Australian All Star Cheerleading National Finals in Sydney at Olympic Park/Homebush.
Both girls were in a combination of routines in which they placed 2nd & 5th. This was a fantastic effort for the Jnr MDC Supa STARZ team (part of Michele's Dance Centre in Maroochydore) as this was the teams first year competing. |

Issue 8 Bookclub has been distributed and orders are due back to school NO LATER than Monday 16th November. This is the last issue of Bookclub for the year.
Books are always a great Christmas gift so have a browse and if there is something you wish to purchase as a gift don’t forget to write your name and phone number on the top of the order form and I will contact you when they arrive.
You are still able to order from Issue 7 (as a back order). Please check that yours or your child’s name is on the top of the order form before returning to school.
I’d like to wish everyone a wonderful festive season and thank you sincerely for supporting Bookclub throughout the year, at the same time encouraging your child to value reading and helping acquire great resources for your school.
Many thanks and I look forward to another successful Bookclub in 2010.

Late Arrival or Early Departure Procedure |
Please be reminded of the procedure at this school for children that arrive late to school or leave early. We ask that if a child is late to school (arriving after 9am), they must come through the office first, complete the Late Arrival Register” and collect a purple late slip that will be then given to the teacher. If there is an occasion when your child needs to leave the school early, then an adult must first visit the office to complete the “Early Departure Register”, collect the green slip then take the slip to the class teacher. This will continue to ensure the safety and whereabouts of all of our students. Thank you for your attention to this. |

First of all I would like to thank all the wonderful students and parents who organised sponsors for the walkathon.
Many thanks to our teachers who also organised the children on the day and have been reminding the children to return the forms and money.
Thank you to our money counters especially Kim Ferguson (on most days), but also Sharon Brodie, Lisa Applegrijn, Michelle Devir, Allison Gleadhill and Pam Kildey. Also thanks to
In doing so you have raised a massive amount, which has allowed us to meet the P & C’s commitment to the school.
The amount raised to date is now just over $8,500.00
Well done everyone!
The winner of the $200.00 towards a class activity prize is still in the process of being worked out due to some forms not having classes or names on it.
The winner of the bike will take us a while to write out all the tickets for the draw - so hopefully that will be done by next weeks newsletter.
The jelly stick rewards should reach the classrooms by the end of this week, depending on the number of helpers we have.
