P&C News 29/4/2008 PDF Print E-mail

It was decided that the $5000 that we won last year from the Shop for Sunshine Kids promotion would go towards the infant playground.

We would like to thank the Community Gambling Benefit Fund for the Grant we received for the purchase of 5 Shade Shelters. They look great and will be well used when we have sports carnivals and attend district carnivals. As well as the many other times we need some portable shade.

Last Sunday the 27th of April at the Good Shepherd Lutheran College the Sunshine Coast Youth Orchestra had their Autumn Concert. We have four children in this brilliant orchestra.

Maddy F (Saxophone) Catalina K (Flute) Leith M (Violin) Jarvis M (Cello). It is marvellous to hear these children performing in such a disciplined and well rehearsed group. If there are any children who would like to know more about the youth orchestra please see me for details.

While I am writing about brilliant work it was wonderful to hear the school band "getting it together" this morning. Wonderful conducting Maddy!! Great playing everyone!!!.

Finally a little something. There is a competition to win a grand piano for the school.

Every Tuesday and Thursday afternoon at 5:30 on Classic FM 88.7 there will be questions asked about the piano. .(I'll be listening as well). The more entries we have the better chance of winning a grand for the school. More details can be found at abc.net.au/classic/goanna/ .

Music joke for the week.
Q: What is the difference between a guitar and a tuna fish?
A: You can tune a guitar but you can't tuna fish!!!!!

Have a great week.

Well done to Emily W, Tahlia R, Shannon C, Sam R and Jade P who competed at the Regional softball trials. Shannon was selected as a shadow player. There was a basketball trial on Tuesday and I am sure the boys and girls who attended will represent Kuluin proudly.
The Coastal District Cross Country will be held on Tuesday May 6 (Monday May 12 or 19 are the back up dates). The venue is the Maroochydore Cricket Grounds. Training will be held at the venue at 4:30 on April 30. All runners should try and attend training so that they can avoid the course orientation on race day. Mr Allen, Mr Stockall and Mr Doherty will be officiating at this event.

A Literature Festival will be held on Monday 2nd June. It has brought some of the finest writers and performers for young people to Queensland’s Sunshine Coast since 1996”

This is a chance for students at our school to see and hear Australia’s finest established and emerging writers and performers for young people. The Festival focuses strongly on inspiring young people to enjoy the world of reading, writing, drawing and performing.

I am visiting grades 5 - 7 this week to see which children would like to take advantage of this wonderful opportunity. We will be taking a group of 45 students to attend 2 sessions. The authors and illustrators your child can see are:- Karen Brooks, Simone Higgins, Wendy Orr, Gus Gordon, Roland Harvey, Michael Wagner.

Students will go by bus to the university, leaving school at 8.30am and will be back by 12.00. The cost for these sessions and the bus will be $16.00 per person

If your child would like to go they must fill in and return the application form to Mrs Doyle by Friday 2nd May. As places are limited they will be allocated on a “first in” basis.
