Book Week was a great success. Many books exchanged hands in the Book Swap and it was a delight to see our students’ faces as they chose their “new” books. The acrostics were a revelation, being exceptionally creative and of a very high standard. We have some very talented children in our school and we have much of their work displayed in the library. Come and see some of it. We were fortunate to have a visit on Friday from the children’s librarian and storyteller, Karen Gawen, from Maroochy Public Library. She entertained 6 classes with her animated storytelling. Readers Cup took on a new look this year with the introduction of buzzers. Grades 5/6/7, 6PA, 7NB, 7JS, 6/7DS were represented in the finals by the following teams Page 4, Caramel Camels, The Fantastic Five, The Crusaders, The Hippy Donuts and the Random Readers. All teams have spent many hours reading the books and preparing. The Fantastic Five got off to a good start but got chased down by the Caramel Camels. In the end it was Page 4 who proved to be too quick on the buzzers and confidently answered most of the questions. Congratulations go to this team of Cody S, Jacob G, Samuel S, Brad L and Connor P – the WINNERS of “The Readers Cup 2008!"Thanks go to our library aide Trish Koltermann who helped put up all the displays, designed certificates and helped run Readers Cup. The Early Years Support Groups is applying for four grants for the infant playground in the very near future:
To help us have a better chance of winning these grants, ($77 500) in total, we would like to ask parents and citizens of The Kuluin School Community to write a letter of support for our project on your personal or business letterhead and hand these into the office in an envelope marked Letters of Support for Infant Playground Grants.
Please click on the Read more link below to see a letter of support example for the Gambling Community Benefits Fund grant. We will need letters like this one to the school office by 4:00 pm, Friday 29th August 2008.
All it takes is half an hour or less and some paper with an envelope. The more letters we have, the more we show we have support for our project and the better chance we have of receiving these grants. Thank you so much for your support!
Education Queensland is committed to providing the best possible computer systems available to its students and staff. To this end a significant upgrade will occur to our systems from the 20th - 27th of August. For this upgrade to take place all computers in the school will be shutdown. Naturally this will cause a few issues as computers seemingly run everything these days. Specifically the services most affected during this time will include the Library, Money Collection / Payment Window and information services available from administration. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause. For more information about this upgrade please visit Education Queensland’s web site: http://education.qld.gov.au/smartclassrooms Andrew Grummitt Smart Classrooms Coordinator
