Pru Mason, a local children's book author spent 4 days working with our students from Grade 2 - 7 last week. They learnt much from listening to a real author speak. Pru shared her secrets on how she builds up her characters in her stories.

The younger children were given ideas on how to develop their descriptive writing and some have produced some excellent poetry as a result. She must have also inspired our students to read. Every copy of her books in the library have been borrowed out.

It was a wonderful experience that all enjoyed.

Letters of Support for Murri Trail Development PDF Print E-mail
The Kuluin School P&C are applying for a grant of $7500 from the Sunshine Coast Regional Council to further develop the Murri Trail by putting in posts and chains to define the pathway and with information to describe the types of native plants in the area and the indigenous food that can be eaten from these plants on plaques on these posts.

We believe this is an important way to preserve the indigenous heritage of the area and will be a more than useful teaching point for all children at the Kuluin School to learn about the healthy eating habits of the indigenous people of the Sunshine Coast.

We would like you to support us by writing a letter of support for this project and handing it into the office by Monday afternoon 15th September at 4:00 pm. So please take half an hour of your time and write a wonderful letter of support for this project.

Ladies Race Day PDF Print E-mail
As you are aware the Early Years Support Group regularly holds fund raising events to help generate funds to put towards a refurbishment of the Junior Playground. This is a monumental undertaking and we rely heavily on volunteers and support from the wider school community. We have enjoyed tremendous support from the school and its students, staff and parents.

On a brisk and gloriously sunny Sunday at the end of August one such fun – raiser happened. Fifty ‘fillies’ dressed to the nines went to the races at Corbould Park. The day was an absolute delight – much fun was had by all. A wonderful group of parents and staff joined together to make the day memorable. There were flowers and decorations on the tables and an enormous range of raffle prizes. We all felt rather special. Sometimes as busy mums that doesn’t always happen. Subsequent conversations indicate that we might make this a regular fundraising event.

However, the day was all about raising funds to better the resources that Kuluin kids have access to. We raised over $1,100 which will go towards the purchase of equipment and soft-fall. It is times like this that you are reminded of the very best in people – willing to support and encourage the efforts of others for the betterment of all.

Our enormous thanks to the organising committee – headed by Leanne Harvey. We would also like to thank the following for their donations towards our super raffle! While this list is not inclusive of all who gave it gives acknowledgement and thanks to people who were able to assist our fundraiser. The are - Chickadees Hair and Beauty, Neumann Petrol, Michele Collins, James family, Theodosiou family, Cupcake Teahouse, Daze and Nights Lingerie, Kirri’s Photography and Jaunita Henderson’s Miessence.

Thanks also to those who donated chocolates, prizes and bought raffle tickets. You are all part of what makes Kuluin a great place to be!

Dance Fever PDF Print E-mail
In term four the students will undertake lessons through the Dance Fever program. These lessons are taken in school time by professional dancers. Dance is a part of the curriculum and a wonderful opportunity for students to interact. The dances that they will learn next term are the Tango and the Jive.

Dance Fever is just another way that Kuluin students are offered opportunities to learn and excel.

Kuluin has always found success in the Dance Challenges that are held in Brisbane each year – maybe within the dancing ranks we have some new winners!

While we understand that the end of the year can be financially a stressful time we do ask for your support with this program. Costs are kept to a minimum enabling each child to participate. Children who do not participate will be required to complete and assignment on the components of dance, while the class is at Dance Fever.
