Over the holiday period we need you to look out for after-hours crime in our school. If you see anything suspicious, please don’t attempt to intervene, remember to call the School Watch number – 13 17 88. The School Watch Program is a partnership between Education Queensland, the Queensland Police Service and the State Government Protective Security Service. It aims to reduce vandalism, theft and arson in Queensland schools. Stephen Logan Principal
The Kuluin School Community Raises $40,000.00 The Kuluin School P & C would like to say a big thank you to all those people who generously donated their time and money throughout the year. For the 2008 year we raised $40,000.00. What a fantastic effort! The main fundraising events through the year were:
- Chocolate Drive - raised $13,000; - Theatre Restaurant - raised $5,000; - Craft Stalls raised - $4,000; - Newsletter Advertising raised $3,000. - Discos raised - $2,000; - The balance was raised by Tuckshop sales, Uniforms sales, 2nd hand Uniforms sales and Bookpack Commission. The money was used to purchase musical instruments, sports equipment, library books, classroom equipment, fund the Opti Minds and L.O.T.E programs, and although originally flagged to add an additional section of fencing along the oval, these funds were reallocated to upgrade the ICT infrastructure network connectivity. The P & C Committee hopes to raise this amount again in 2009. To do this we need your help. You can:
- Attend P & C meetings – Held 3rd Tuesday of each month in the staff room; - Attend Parent Rep/Action Group meetings – Held each month in the volunteer’s room;
- Assist Pauline Belsar (Community Development Officer) - Phone 5477 3727; - Join the Craft Group – Held each week in the volunteers room; - Volunteer at the tuckshop – Drop in and see Rhonda at the tuckshop any time; - Keep an eye out in the School Newsletter for requests for volunteers at our major fundraising events. Our next P & C Meeting will be held on 17 February 2009 at 7pm in the staff room. It will be the Annual General Meeting, which means we will be voting in a new Executive Committee. The available positions in the Committee are: President – chairs meetings; Vice-President – supports President; Treasurer – oversees financial matters; Secretary – prepares correspondence and meeting minutes. So come along and get involved. It’s a great way to meet people and help raise funds for this great school of ours. Well done and thank you for your continued support. Michelle Devir P & C Treasurer
Walking is a great way to keep fit and enjoy our Autumn weather. Why not leave the car at home two days a week and walk your children to school? Perhaps you can organise a walking group with other parents and children who live nearby. Your children will see this as an adventure and enjoy the walk. You may even see things that you’ve not noticed before. - Increase the joy of walking and take a different path each week - Enjoy the natural surroundings like birds and flowers, - When was the last time you stopped to “smell the roses”? - Enjoy life - take a walk! Remember to use designated footpaths, not the road. Never cross the road between parked vehicles - approaching traffic may not see you. Instead, use children’s and pedestrian crossings and cross at lights if provided. Look right, look left, look right again, be aware and teach your kids to watch out, watch out there are cars about!! Walking to school will ease traffic congestion around the school, and give you time to think or chat with your friends -or people you’ve never met before. More importantly, you will enjoy some quality time with your children while teaching them to model your attitudes to a healthy lifestyle, road safety and the environment. Stephen LoganPrincipal
